Privacy policy

This page explains which personal data we process when you visit Creator Guide, for what purpose and on what legal basis. In short: Creator Guide sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking tools. Your watchlist and settings stay in your browser. YouTube is only loaded when you play a video.

2. Hosting and server log files

Creator Guide is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. Pages are served from a data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Vercel under Art. 28 GDPR. As Vercel is a US company, access from the USA cannot be ruled out; transfers are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR) and additionally on the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).

When you open a page, your browser automatically sends information that is stored in server log files:

This data is technically required to deliver the website and keep it stable and secure. We only use your browser's preferred language to send you to the German or English version on your first visit. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is the secure and error-free operation of the website. The data is not combined with other sources or used for marketing. Log files are deleted automatically after a short time.

3. Cookies, tracking and browser storage

We set no cookies and use no analytics, tracking or marketing tools. Your browser converts episode times into your time zone itself; this information is not sent to us.

When you use features that remember something, we keep it in your browser's local storage: your appearance setting (system, light, dark), your watchlist with watched episodes and how far you got in the embedded player, "My services" and "Tell me when it's free". This data never leaves your device. To hide services that only exist in some countries, your browser asks once per session which country the request comes from; the country is only kept in your browser for that session. For "My shows", your browser only requests the public data of the saved shows from us, without reference to you. The legal basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG, as storing it is strictly necessary for the feature you asked for. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

4. Fonts and thumbnails

Fonts are served from our own server; there is no connection to Google Fonts. Video and channel thumbnails come from the YouTube Data API. We fetch them via our server and deliver them from there, so your browser does not connect to YouTube for them.

5. Embedded YouTube videos

On episode pages you can play videos directly. Until you click "Play video", we only show a thumbnail from our server. Only then is the YouTube player loaded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Data such as your IP address, the page you are on and device information is transferred to YouTube, and YouTube may store or read information on your device. A transfer to the USA is possible; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

The legal basis is your consent given by the click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it for the future at any time by reloading the page. For details see Google's privacy policy.

6. Links to other services

Creator Guide links to YouTube, streaming services such as Nebula, Prime Video or Joyn, and the ARD and ZDF Mediatheken. Only when you click such a link is the other site opened and its operator receives data such as your IP address. That operator is responsible for the processing there.

7. Submitting a show

When you send a tip via "Submit a show", we store the link, your notes and – if you give it – your email address to review the show and answer questions. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (reviewing your tip) and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR for the email address you choose to give. We delete the email address after 90 days at the latest.

8. Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process the information you give us (e.g. name, email address and the content of your request) to handle it. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns a contract, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete your data once your request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention periods (§ 257 HGB, § 147 AO) apply.

9. Encryption

Creator Guide is served exclusively over an encrypted connection (TLS).

10. Your rights

Right to object under Art. 21 GDPR

Where we process your data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then stop processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, or the processing serves to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Our competent authority is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany.

11. No automated decision-making

There is no automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. The AI-assisted writing of our texts only processes public video metadata, never visitor data.
